Moving toward a more sustainability lifestyle can feel overwhelming at first. What I found helpful was to focus on one room at a time, slowly read up on ways to change shopping habits, and then, modify purchasing habits over time. No rush — we don’t want to be wasteful! A few tips and tricks below to help you get started.

  • Purchase organic, NON-GMO always

  • Opt in for plant-based. If you’re a meat eater, choose organic, pasture-raised, grass-fed meat

  • Look for locally sourced ingredients

  • Go to farmers markets or co-ops. Purchase CSA baskets. Seek out farms that do regenerative farming practices

  • Plant an herb garden at home

  • Reduce food waste. Buy only what you need

  • Use reusable glass and/or metal tupperware, water bottles, bamboo/stainless steel reusable straws, stasher bags, etc.

  • Transition to reusable dish towels and napkins (made of non-synthetic, natural material)

  • Use zero waste, natural cleaning supplies (e.g. DIY Dr. Bronners Sal Suds, and Blueland)

  • Compost, compost, compost!

  • Use your dishwasher, it actually saves water!

  • Buy in bulk

  • Use reusable shopping bags, produce bags, and glass jars (*many stores are not allowing this at this time due to COVID)

  • Change out all your light bulbs to LED bulbs

  • Unplug anything in the wall
